Oregon man accidentally recycles over $20,000 in cash
For one Ashland, Oregon man, who accidentally chucked his life savings, Friday was a fortunate day. Recology Humboldt County staff were able to retrieve the approximately $23,000 the guy kept in a shoebox he accidentally recycled around 7:15 a.m. at the Samoa Resource Recovery Center.
"It's not the first time I've heard of someone losing something precious in the garbage or recycling we've been able to retrieve," said Recology Humboldt County general manager Linda Wise. "But it's like attempting to discover a needle in a haystack." Recology Humboldt was contacted by Recology Ashland, one of the many locations that send recycling to the recycling facility in Samoa, after someone "did wrongly throw a shoebox complete of their life savings up there and was frenzied to look for it," said Wise.
"If we didn't keep an eye out for it, it could readily have been lost," said Wise. "We have been able to retrieve it for him in this situation. That's nice news".
